Mockingjay - District 3 Blog Tour Stop + Giveaway

I have been chosen as a tribute for District 3.

Thankfully, not to fight to the death - as much as The Hunger Games is an amazing book, I wouldn't want to participate in THAT. I'm a tribute in the Mockingjay blog tour! It's also partly celebrating the official Hunger Games facebook page, so you should go check it out.

Why Rue Really Sparked The Rebellion - At Least For Katniss
Why am I blogging about this and not about somebody from District 3? Because as kick ass as Wiress is, and as much as she affected how Katniss leads her life in Mockingjay, she's nothing compared to Rue.

Let's take a step back and look at how inconsequential Rue would have been to the series had she not have met Katniss. She just would have been the underdog, flying between trees until somebody shot her. (Probably Katniss, actually.)

But she met Katniss. And they sympathized with each other. And they teamed up.

And I come to know Rue, the oldest of six kids, fiercely protective of her siblings, who gives her rations to the younger ones, who forages in the meadows in a district where the Peacekeepers are far less obliging than ours. Rue, who when you ask her what she loves most in the world, replies, of all things, "Music."

And had she not died, and had Katniss not lay flowers over her body, and sung her a song, the Rebellion may not have happened. She may still have pulled off her star-crossed lovers ending. Or maybe, since they didn't team up, the whole Game would have changed, and Peeta would have been killed.

Maybe if Rue hadn't even entered the games, the Rebellion wouldn't even happen. There never would have been hope.

Rue's death has forced me to confront my own fury against the cruelty, the injustice they inflict upon us.
...
I want to do something, right there, right now, to shame them, to make them accountable, to show the Capitol that whatever they do or force us to do there is a part of every tribute they can't own. That Rue was more than a piece in their Games. And so am I.

Final line: what really drove Katniss to win - to piss off the Capitol - was what they did to poor Rue.

Don't agree with me? That's okay. I want to know what YOU think. Agree? Disagree? Think I'm just a raving lunatic? Comment and let me know.
