Friday Feature on Thursday: Bookcases (25)

Who said storage had to be boring?

an English bookcase, circa 1760, formerly in the Carlton Hobbs collection, whose doors are set with sixty Chinese mirror paintings, an unprecedented design element. The specifically-constructed glass sections were sent all the way to China from England to be hand painted before being inserted into their intended spaces.

This is a piece from the Carlton Hobbs collection, and I have to say, I think my medieval Europe professor would go nuts over it (even if it is a bit into the modern time period. Medieval ends around the 1500s.) I mean, look at it! It's absolutely gorgeous!

PS: Curious as to why this is on a Thursday? Well, my favorite fairy is stopping by tomorrow! ;)
