Interview: Sherry Soule (& Giveaway)

This giveaway is over.

Swinging by WORD today is Sherry Soule, author of Beautifully Broken!

Thirteenth daughter. Heritage witch. Demon slayer.

They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Whispering Pines. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse.

Sixteen-year-old Shiloh Ravenwolf is a heritage witch from the Broussard family, a family both destined and cursed. When she takes a summer job at Ravenhurst Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, and immediately becomes spellbound by his charms. Yet she is determined to discover the connection between them before it’s too late.

Finally, Shiloh's met someone who is supercute and totally into her, but Trent may be the next victim on the supernatural hit list. And Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him. Complicated much?

Nicole: Welcome to WORD, Sherry! Beautifully Broken is set in the town of Whispering Pines. Where did you get the idea for the town?
Sherry Soule: Whispering pines is a coastal town. It is my rendering of a Silent Hill-esque world.

N: Is Shiloh based on anybody, or her appearance based on anyone you know?
SS: No. She is just a character created in my head.

N: How does magic work in your world? What it inspired by any other story?
SS: Magick is either taught by the elders in the family or inherited. The stronger magick is heredity—hence, Heritage Witches like Shiloh and her mother and aunt. In Shiloh’s family is only passed down through the women in the family. On her father’s side, Shiloh’s grandmother is a shaman, too.

N: I do love inherited talent. Do tell us about your cover!
SS: The artistic and talented Parajunkee Designs created the cover. She’s ingenious!

N: Since we're talking of magic and magical things, which are your favorite magical character, in television or movies or books?
SS: I loved Anne Rice’s “The Witching hour,” Willow from “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer”, and Pru from the TV series, “Charmed.

N: Willow! I love Willow. If you could cast Beautifully Broken as a movie, who would you cast?
SS: Great question! For Trent—that’s easy. The second I saw Alex Pettyfer in the movie: I Am Number Four, I knew he was perfect. Shiloh? Malese Jow would be awesome, IMHO.

N: What's your favorite outfit?
SS: Hot pink Doc Martens with a jean skirt!

N: A dragon made of fire is chasing you through the streets of your town! What do you do?
SS: Pee my pants? Toast marshmallows? Buy a fire extinguisher? LOL
