Books That Rock: How I Brought REUNITED’s Fictional Band to Life (Guest Post: Hilary Graham, REUINTED)

Reunited is a contemporary YA novel which tells the story of Alice, Summer, and Tiernan—three ex-best friends who drive 2,000 miles cross-country to see the one-night-only reunion show of the band (Level3) they loved as little girls. So naturally, music shows up a lot in the book, in the background of various scenes and at the beginning of each chapter, which starts with a lyrical excerpt. But a funny thing happened as I wrote Level3’s songs. I found myself not only writing the lyrics, but also composing the melodies in my head.

And with that realization an idea was born. Everyone loves music. Reunited is about music. Why not actually go ahead and actually create my fictional band? So, after Reunited was written, I set my sights on bringing Level3 to life.

Cuter than One Direction, more soulful than The Jonas Brothers, Level3 could soon be sweeping the charts.

Today, www.level3theband.com is a place where fans can read blog posts by the band members, download two free Level3 songs, peruse photos, watch a behind-the-scenes “pop-up” documentary on the band, download three free chapters of Reunited, and follow Level3 on Facebook and Twitter. And by this time tomorrow, there’ll be a music video, too!

I’m proud to announce the world premiere of Level3’s music video for “Parade” tomorrow right here on WORD For Teens. So check in on June 12th -- which just so happens to be the same day Reunited hits bookstores – to watch Level3 in action, and enter to win a copy of Reunited, too.

Plus, find out how you could win a $50 TicketMaster Gift Certificate just by following the band.
