Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

It's well written. I didn't really get into int until about a third of the way though, but it's understandable - the world was being built up around us, which was necessary for the plot.

I've never been a big fan of 'love at first sight' books. Yes, I love the concept, but it has to be properly executed to work properly. You shouldn't just dive right in despite your feelings - there has to be some pull and push, coming together and pushing apart. Just because you're both in love doesn't mean you should be accepting it. Will and Jacinda (I love that name!) were on again-off again for most of the book, but at first, their relationship annoyed me. I grew to love it, though. Jacinda's instinctual reactions to him were fantastic, and Will is super sexy. (Can I have one?)

I love the characters. Jacinda is awesome, and not just because she's a draki - she really did love her family, and Will. She just needed her draki more. Will, as I mentioned, is SUPER SEXY. Her sister Tamra is very realistic - the odd one out who had always had to deal with the shining sister, and then the sudden role reversal. I'm excited that we'll get to see more of Cassian in the next book. I also am DYING to meet Nidia.

But Firelight is Twilight except so much better. Take the dark, fantastical idea of a prey and a hunter falling in love, get rid of the desires to trip all the time and to nom her neck, and add in a plot line that is so much more interesting than Twilight's ever was. That's Firelight.

"A hunter in love with his prey. Seems impossible."

I mean, come on.

I can't wait to see what happens with the enkros and Will/Jacinda and Cassian/Jacinda and Nidia and... everything.

Overall Rating & Final Comments: 10/10. A bit of a slow beginning, and the end goes by really fast, but by that time, I was sucked in and couldn't wait to see what happened.
Cover Notes: So much love! It's so pretty. (On closer look, though, the model does kind of look like she's sweating.
Twilight or Firelight? Vampires out. Draki in.
